
Sattler in Tuzla: Young people don’t want to wait for others to solve their problems
During his visit to Tuzla the Ambassador of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Johann Sattler, talked with young people gathered by the NGOs ‘Omladinski resursni centar’ and ‘Ja bih u EU’ to discuss youth activism and the need for a stronger role for young people in promoting EU values and standards on rights and democracy. The project ‘Youth Rule of Law’ (Lab), which is implemented by these two organisations and funded by the European Union, was an occasion for discussion and promotion of the importance of educating young people about the rule of law, fighting corruption, increasing their knowledge of the judiciary in this country and other activities.
Ambassador Sattler's visit to young people from ORC and 'Ja bih u EU' ended with a tour of the sights of the city of Tuzla[/caption] Ambassador Sattler expressed his satisfaction that young people are trying to solve the everyday problems they face in this way of working and this approach, problems such as pollution, which is a matter of quality of life, and corruption, which prevents young people from having equal opportunities and progress in society. Slobodan Blagovčanin, a representative of ORC Tuzla, thanked Ambassador Sattler for his visit and his interest in their work and pointed out that a visits by an EU official is important because it shows support and the desire to invest in young people. Slobodan said, 'The authorities often forget us and show little interest in solving the problems that young people face today.'
The manual "Rule of Law-LAB" was presented[/caption] On this occasion, the manual ‘Rule of Law-LAB’ was presented to the project by the Association of Women Judges in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its content enables young people to get acquainted with legal concepts and the representatives of the judiciary and to gain a better understanding of their rights and how to exercise and protect them. Lara Sutović from ‘Ja bih u EU’ pointed out that the process of European integration is complex and that young people need education and practice in many sectors and segments if new generations are to an actively participate in this process. Ambassador Sattler's visit to the young people from the ORC and ‘Ja bih u EU’ ended with a tour of Tuzla's landmarks and a walk along the promenade to discuss the importance of maintaining prosperity, peace and the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
